How many times have you changed a light bulb only to find that it doesn’t match the other bulbs in the room? Or that your the paint color you deliberated over no longer looks its best after you replaced some bulbs? A new line of white LED light bulbs under The Home Depot’s EcoSmart brand was designed to solve this problem—and to make light bulb shopping much simpler.

EcoSmart Universal Select Light Bulbs feature convenient switches integrated into the bulb to adjust brightness and white color temperatures to your exact needs.

By offering a customizable wattage and shade of white light, one light bulb can be used in any room and any fixture. That unique value—in addition to the high performance—earned EcoSmart Universal Light bulbs the top spot for The Home Depot’s 2025 Innovation Awards.

So, How Does One Bulb Offer So Much Customization?

Each bulb is equipped with three switches embedded in the heatsink between the lens and base that can be easily adjusted.

  • Set your preferred color temperature from the following six options: 2700K (“soft white,” as described by the manufacturer), 3000K (“bright white”), 3500K (“true white”), 4000K (“cool white”), 5000K (“daylight”), and 6500K (“daylight deluxe”).
  • Choose the brightness you want between 700 lumens, 1000 lumens, 1200 lumens.
  • There is even a setting to adjust the beam angle to 25 degrees (spot), 40 degrees (flood), or 60 degrees (a very wide flood) to create whatever illumination you desire.

These light bulbs are dimmable to 10 percent, compatible with most LED dimmer switches, and suitable for enclosed fixtures. Best of all, they’re rated to last for 15,000 hours—and backed by EcoSmart’s 5-year warranty.

While these aren’t smart bulbs that can be controlled via an app, their ability to adjust the temperature and wattage manually at the time of installation is still a major bonus and exciting innovation. There is still some decision-making to be done, too, including what size base your fixture requires or how much flexibility you’d benefit from in brightness or beam angle. Even so, a lot of the second-guessing is eliminated—and that’s a win in our books. See the whole EcoSmart Universal collection at The Home Depot.
