After nearly a decade of doing all my outdoor cooking on a griddle alone, I found myself missing the open-flame flavor and browning you only get with a traditional grill. And in those many years, the features available on even reasonably priced models like the Monument Grills Mesa 415BZ changed significantly. With 62,000 BTUs across its ample cooking surface, a dedicated sear zone, and a 12,000 BTU burner for sauces and sides, it has every high-end feature I’ve been wanting without the premium price tag.

Key Takeaways

  • High-end features at a budget price. The Monument Grills Mesa 415BZ offers 62,000 BTUs, a sear zone, and a side burner for under $500.
  • Ample cooking space. With 630 square inches, it’s perfect for meals serving 8 to 10 people.
  • Convenience meets performance. Easy-to-clean grates, electric ignition, and LED-lit knobs enhance usability.
  • Extras make it versatile. Options like a rotisserie kit and pizza stone expand cooking possibilities.

Bottom line: The Monument Grills Mesa 415BZ is a feature-rich, affordable gas grill ideal for outdoor cooks seeking versatility and performance.

Assembly and Features

Although it’s already a distant memory, my only real gripe about the Mesa 415BZ is the amount of assembly it requires. Granted, I haven’t put together a grill in a very long time, and the last time I did, it was a simple charcoal model. And to be fair, the instruction manual was pretty easy to follow, and Monument even has a super helpful step-by-step assembly guide on YouTube (which I didn’t see until I was done). Still, this isn’t a project you’ll want to save for the last minute—when a grill has this many features, it just makes sense it’s going to take a few hours to go from unboxing to ready to roll.

Spending that hands-on time with the Mesa 415BZ gas grill did get me excited about firing it up, however. With four stainless steel burners, a powerful sear zone, and a useful side burner, it was easy to start planning the different combinations of mains, sides, and sauces I could cook on this one implement alone. The heat output was impressive as well: The side burner puts out 12,000 BTUs, the four main burners a combined 62,000, and the sear zone positions two of those main burners alongside an additional burner close together for faster heating and higher temperatures.

That heat is paired with a generous 630 square inches of total cooking space, including 450 square inches of primary grilling area and a 180 square inch warming rack. That’s enough room to make a meal for 8 to 10 people, whether they want burgers, steaks, veggies, or a combination of all three.

Design and Performance

As I tested the Mesa 415BZ propane grill, making tri-tip tacos, chicken and veggie kabobs, and brats and beans, it became obvious Monument Grills cares as much about convenience as it does performance. The grilling grates are made of easy-to-clean enameled cast iron, and the lid has a built-in thermometer and viewing window so you can monitor your meal without losing heat. The burners start instantly thanks to an electric ignition, and their control knobs have individual LED lights so you can tell which ones are on.

Opposite the side burner sits a useful prep shelf with a bottle opener underneath, and both the burner and the shelf have hooks for hanging tools. The propane tank is hidden from view behind two stainless steel doors, and locking caster wheels make the 90-pound setup super simple to move.

The Mesa 415BZ propane grill gives you all this for less than $500, which makes adding extras like a cover, rotisserie kit, or all-in-one grill kit (a griddle top, pizza stone, smoker box, tongs, spatula, and hanging rack) much more feasible. Outdoor cooks looking for a user-friendly gas grill that has enough space for entertaining plus virtually every feature on their wish list won’t be disappointed.
