If you want one drill bit set that can handle almost anything a typical home project throws at you, Ryobi has you covered. Replete with twist bits, driver bits, masonry bits, and much more, this set packs a broad range of common bits into a well-organized case. Although there are other drill bit kits we recommend for professionals who require more specialized bits, for the rest of us, this Ryobi drill bit kit is more than enough for drilling wood, plastic, drywall, some metals, and even masonry. And at this price, it’s a steal.

For new homeowners, casual DIYers, and renters looking for a reasonably priced kit to handle whatever needs fixing, we love this 300-piece from Ryobi. For starters, it has a huge assortment of pieces, including all the most common bits, nut drivers, carbon hole saws, and driving bits. It also has duplicates of common sizes in case you lose any, although the way the storage case is organized makes it hard to misplace them. Currently priced at under $75, the consensus on this kit seems to be: Is it really that affordable?

Right off the bat, I was impressed by the cost-to-value ratio of this kit. Ryobi is widely recognized as a reliable choice for home repair tools and accessories, but the price here is a better-than-average value.

We tested 14 bits from the kit. They worked as expected, and in some cases, better. Given the low cost, we were prepared for underwhelming performance, but these simply delivered. Though these aren’t pro-grade, the thin-diameter bits handled well without flexing or breaking, and the thicker bits only skated slightly on the surface. That being said, be sure to follow common-sense practices to prolong their life and keep yourself safe: avoid drilling too quickly, exerting excess pressure, or continuing to drill when the bit starts to overheat.

Unless you’re a professional, this kit has everything most people will need for DIY projects and everyday situations. What we appreciate most about this kit is that it hits a sweet spot: it offers enough variety to handle almost anything at home, without padding the kit with overpriced extras most people will never use.
