Tour of the Withers Industries Factory

Project: Federal-Style Home, Episode 6, Part 3

Bob joins restoration contractor Richard Marks to discuss the grand Charleston staircase connecting the entry porch with the street-- it's in dire need of repair and restoration. Meanwhile, paint stripping and siding repair have begun on the home's exterior.

Bob tours the historic Greek Revival home of secessionist Robert Barnwell Rhett, and also tours the Withers Industries factory, where reproduction shutters are being made for use in Bob's restoration project.

Part 3: Tour of the Withers Industries Factory
Bob meets with restoration contractor Richard Marks to review the reproduction shutters that will be placed on the project house. They also visit the Withers Industries plant where the shutters were made.
Bob Vila tackles the revitalization of an exquisite Federal-style home, built in the early 1800s, which survived the Civil War but barely survived Hurricane Hugo in 1989. A major aspect of the project is the painstaking process of restoring the original plaster ornamentation and woodwork to their original detail.
