Known for its advanced battery technology at affordable prices, Greenworks unsurprisingly wowed us when we tested battery-powered mowers last year. The Pro 80V 21-inch mower will cut and mulch, bag, or discharge grass clippings for up to 70 minutes on a single charge. (Plus, the two 2.0-Ah batteries recharge in a total of 60 minutes on the included rapid charger.) We appreciated that it adjusts the motor speed based on load (i.e. thickness of the grass) to maximize battery life while maintaining excellent cut quality. Its lack of motorized wheels also helps maximize battery life for cutting grass—and it keeps the price low.
The Greenworks model proved to be “an extremely capable mower” during our testing of battery-powered mowers. Mark Wolfe, our resident lawn and garden tester, writes: “The powerful motor offered the most ‘gas-like’ performance of the group. It had no trouble cutting dense, weedy grass up to 10 inches tall and left possibly the best finish of all the mowers we tested. In all three modes, bagging, mulching, and side discharging, it left the grass perfectly smooth, with no uneven spots or stringy weeds left behind. It had plenty of power to mulch thick grass into virtually invisible clippings.”
All considered, we felt that this push mower delivered the strongest mowing capability, even though we had to push it—and the retail price was already a bargain compared to most of the battery-powered mowers we reviewed, earning it the Best Bang for the Buck award.
