We have plans to build a new house and the architect has designed a covered porch directly over the garage. Our builder is perplexed about the proper matieral to use under the decking for the "roof" of the garage. We have a few feet to get a subtle grade. Seems like a rubber roof would do the trick and since it will be covered, it will not be subject to the UV problems that plague most rubber roofs. We are concerned about the proper material because if repairs are necessary, we may have to rip up the decking to get at it. Does anyone know what material would be best for this situation?

Well, without seeing your place . I'm first of all wondering about a metal roof ? Also, is it possible to construct your enclosed porch /patio elsewhere ? Also I'm wondering if this installation was done upon your Rubber roof are there any odors that would be smelt ..say in hot weather { Spring -Fall}; when you'd most likely be up there ?
I have done several decks on sleepers over EPDM. IMO - its the only way to go.

Thanks so much. There was a lot of info there - can't say I understood much of it, but it did give me some idea of what we need to do. The covered deck is heavy - it is a log frame structure and I saw a thread that talked about the log issues a bit. But we're up around 3,000 feet and the wind will be an issue - also in a hurricane area. Anyway, any chance you're located in South Central Virginia area or have someone you recommend there?
