I was planning on digging new footings along the entire wall in the basement as needed, raising the house (very slowly of course) on a beam running the entire length of the house placed along side the existing foundation under the joists and then enclosing the new posts in a wall.
I have a number of questions. First, I am not sure what kind of jacks are best to use (there is 6 feet from the basement concrete floor to the bottom of the joists)? Can I use screw jack posts that you buy at home depot? Is there anything better to use. If I use these to jack up the house, can I leave them in place as the posts? Does anyone know a simple formula for figuring out how many posts you need over a fifty foot span in a two story row house? I was planning to sister 3 2X12's for the 40-50 foot beam. Does anyone have a better idea?
Any help is appreciated on this one.
