I moved into my house a year ago. Previous owner had replaced the hot water heater a month or two before they moved out. Ever since I moved in, I noticed the water in the bathtub running a bit yellow or rusty, but would go away and the water would run clear after a pretty short time. Now it is much worse, and I noticed it in my washing machine, which is located in the basement, when I ran a hot water wash. Cold water runs clear with no problem. Any ideas what this could be?

What type of system is your water coming from, well, or city? Do you have a water softner that just needs salt? I have a well system that is heavy in the iron content. If I dont keep the Iron filter and water softner fully stocked with the salt and potasium pergamate, thats the first place I see it, in the hot water system. You might also have a filter somewhere that needs to be replaced.
