The other day I saw a small, reddish pink, drop underneath the baseboard heat in my bathroom. The heat had been on a few hours earlier. I saw it again this morning, however I do not think the heat was on overnight. I get that I have some sort of leak from the baseboard, but why red? Is it rusty water? Is there water in the system even when it's off? Thanks for any input!

Is it possible the leak is coming from the bleeder valve? The valves are on one end of the register.

I doubt this is your problem but in two homes I've seen red drops on the floor at the baseboard. It took a while to figure out but it turned out to be a Eucalyptus wreath hanging on the wall above the baseboard would drip if there was enough humidity from the shower. Again, I doubt this is your problem but it sounds so similar I thought I'd throw it out there...

Monitor it. It may not be a leak. It may be condensation. You would need to take off the cover to get a better idea of the source of the red. Sounds like deteriorating metal. Your humidity may have gotten too high in the bathroom.

Problem solved, thanks fragasaurus, you were on the right track. In the outlet above the baseboard my wife has one of those Wizard plug in air freshners with the oil in it. She bought a replacement which was not the right one and the oil had somehow bubbled over or something. Still not sure why it turns red, figure from the metal. One smell of it last night though and...Bingo! It was like an early X-mas present, no potential big repair bill. Thanks to all!!
