Please assist! I'm brain fried and am having a hard time figuring this out: I have three rooms with the following measurements:

1st room: 9'6"x8'4"

2nd room: 11'7"x12'8"

3rd room: 11'7"x8'10"

How many square yards is that? it's confusing me trying to figure out how much new carpet will cost. Thank you! When I do it it's pretty expensive and I'm hoping I'm wring!

The exact area for all rooms is 36.5 square yards. You should order about 10% overage for waste and cutting. The overage amount depends upon the total size of the project, the width and length of the carpet you buy, the direction the pattern runs, and the skill of the installer. Your installer will recommend an overage amount.

For easy calculations follow these rules:

1. Round ALL dimensions to the next highest WHOLE number.

2. Multiply each room size to get square feet.

3. Add all room areas together.

4. Divide the total square feet by 9 to get square yards.

I make that out to be an order of 43 yards. Carpet comes on a 12' wide roll so that adds to waste
