So maybe this answer is good for next time you lay some sod.
As soon as the turf is laid you need to start the maintenance. Begin watering the entire area with at least 3cm of water. This ensures that the dirt will be moist, and will encourage the turf to take root. As an easy way to check if the water is soaking in enough, you can fold back a corner of the turf, and see how far the water is soaking in. Although only do this the first time.
For the first fortnight you need to keep this same daily watering routine. You can check how much moisture is being absorbed by sticking a screwdriver in the dirt. It is a bit like checking to see if a cake is cooked.
After the two weeks, then a few good solid soaks a weeks is more important that shallow watering every week.
