How important is it to insulate a basement when finishing?

I would think it's very important in terms of heating and cooling loss. Your grade or ground level does support some amount of insulation. If it were me I would paint the bare walls with a waterproofing paint. Install a 6 mil vapor barrier and insulation. This is just my general opinion. Search the web and see what you come up with. Consult with some General Contractors. They will be then happy to discuss insulation matters with you, and your are under no commitment to hire them. Good Luck, Tom
