I am a new home owner with little knowledge on the work that needs to be done to the basement. I need some advice:

1. I have a 100 years old house with stone and concrete foundation.

2. Basement is partial.

3. I would like to do finish part of the basement to make it usable.

4. Need some advice on basement floor finishing and basement wall finishing.

I would like to do it myself to keep the costs down.

Any guidance is highly appreciated.

Do not install wood and dry wall in the basement if humidity and moisture are present, you will waste your money and possibly put your families health at risk with mold.

Tape a plastic sheet or trash bag about 3 ft square to the concret floor you have existing, and to each of the walls. remove after 24 to 48 hours and check for moisture. if you do not get any, try again for week.

If moisture is present, you have to resolve the issue, if there is a leak, fix it, or if there is high humidity, then you may need a dedicated dehumidifier. Also,

you spend your money as you like, but before commiting, look into the owens corning Basement finishing system.

Also, to improve you homes value, the space may need to be heated as well as have access to the outside other than the stairs inside your home.
