The crawl space under my house is insulated with a single layer 3.5 inches of fiberglass between the joists. I want to upgrade the insulation. I was thinking of rigid foam bonded to foundation walls and across the joists. Any suggestions?

Waht you suggest is one option but you may be better off insulating the walls and floor fo the crawlspace with foam to achieve and even greater insulating capacity.

Homebild, how owuld you suggest insulating the cinder block that make the walls of the crawl space? I know you said foam, but what type?

Rigid foam (4'x8' sheets...1-2inches thick)on the inside or outside of the block will usually give a drier and warmer crawlspace or basement than just fiberglass in the joists alone.

Foam can be glued/nailed to the foundation block.

How do you get that rigid foam thru that tiny crawlspace entrance?

Increase the size of the opening or cut the rigid sheets.
