When we remodeling the kitchen in a Craftsman bungalow four years ago, we had a tin backsplash installed in the kitchen. It is now rusted in places and seems to have some oxidization in areas. We tried removing the rust with whiting and a potato. It helped some but it still looks bad. What should we do? Should we paint it? If so, what kind of paint should we use? Any advice would be useful.

have you tried a fine steel wool? Coke (the soda) can also remove rust from tin. Once you have it removed and looking good, you'll want to seal it with a clear coat.
