Having carpets cleaned when there are asbestos tiles underneath
13 years ago, we had carpet professionally installed over the original, intact asbestos tiles in our 1952 Florida home. In preparation for listing our house on the market, we are considering having the carpets professionally cleaned. Is there a concern that asbestos fibers could be disturbed or brought up into the carpeting layer during a professional cleaning process? Recarpeting is the only other option I was told because asbestos must not be sealed up by an over-flooring (such as vinyl planks). It will trap moisture and lead to mold. Also, what is involved in encapsulating asbestos tiled floors (is it pricey?)and what over floors are then suitable after encapsulation?
