I've got a Craftsman 1/2 in my garage. It was there when i bought the place and i have no manual for it. Problem is that when i activate it, the light dims, i hear a buzzing sound, then a click and it stops without moving an inch...

It's from '96 so i'm not sure if there's an easy solution, or if i should pay the $60 for a repair person to visit, or just replace it...

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi - there's been other recent posts on this type of topic here. Someone posted the website URL where you can go and possibly locate/download a free copy of your owner's manual for your specific garage door opener. Be sure to get the complete model number off the unit before you begin searching. Good luck and Happy Holidays!

It sounds like the door is mechanically locked. Have you tried to open it manually by releasing the catch and then lifting it?

Yes, the opener does this whether the door is attached or not...

Thanks for the tip on the manual, i'll start searching for it

IT sounds like the opener is jammed. There are many plastic gears in these units. One could be broken. The chain could be jammed or off the pulley.
