I have the Amana Smoothtop Range (model #ACF4215AB) and I can't seem to find the answer to this question in any of the literature or the Amana website. Can I place a hot pan directly on the glass top? For example, if I get a cake out of the oven, can I place it directly on the smoothtop or should I use a hotpad/trivet to protect the smoothtop?

I have a Kenmore smooth top and I quickly looked through my manual. I see nothing about that. I do it all the time and nothing has happened to my smooth top. If you're worried about the sudden temp change, the burners are hotter than that and very close to it. If you're worried about scratching it you use pots on it. I am going to continue to do it.

I don't see why you shouldn't be able to.

Devildog & DanO - thanks for the replies. While scratching the smoothtop is somewhat of a concern, my biggest concern was that a pan coming directly from the oven and placed on the cool cooktop might be too much of a change in temperature and cause the top to shatter. Since I couldn't find anything that said *don't* do it, I figured it would probably be ok. Thanks again for your input.
