I have a 20-year-old house with [original] generous recessed lighting throughout. However, 3 of the many fixtures habitually blink on and off. Since the bulb wattage is proper and consistent among all the fixtures, I suspect faulty thermal protectors are the culprits. Is there an easy way to repair these fixtures or must they be removed for repair or be replaced [neither a fun job] for a permanent solution?

If they're like mine, you can't get to the thermal protectors without pulling them out.

Try using the spiral flourescent bulbs in the fixtures. A 100W output flourescent spiral takes about 26 watts. The low power and low heat should suit the sensor.
