My shower drain would not close and hold water in the tub. I messed around with the thing you lift up in order to hold the drain in and now it is not working at all except to make the shower drain slower. The shower was draining fine until I messed with it. How do I fixed this?

Remove and replace the overflow faceplate. The lever's round off the peak inside that keeps the stopper pulled up. You're fixed for $5.00. For tonight, remove the faceplate, remove the pin and stopper mechanism, and reinstall the faceplate so shower water does not splash back into the wall. You can then still shower.
