I need help installing a new toilet. This is a replacement for an old toilet. I have nevet done this. My plumber is busy and I want this done for a party this weekend.

My issue when I try to place the on the existing floor flange I get confused,

On the flange the wide opening open for the bolt on the right hand side is near the front. On the left hand side the wide area of the flange opening in toward the back. If I place both bolts on the narrow end of the flange opening they are out line by an inch.

If I place the bolts in the center of the opening they seem to move.

I am trying to get the toilet on the bolts ( without the wax ring for now) but I keep having trouble getting both bolt in the toilet holes

What am I missing ?

What is ther trick

Thanks

I have heard of people taping straws onto the bots to give them something to guide the toilet onto.

Thanks for the help. I measured 12 inches and placed the bolts with a plastic washer that held the bolts in place. The toilets is in place firmly mounted to thh floor and level.

I do not see a future for me as a plumber.
