My toilet's been acting odd. It'll flush for a while, then won't after a few days (especially if there's solid waste). If i plunge it furiously, it'll be ok for a few days, then it repeats. Also, my sink has taken to backing up and draining slowly, but the pipe leaks a little too. Would simple cleaners fix that, or do i need something more serious?

Drain cleaners are AMAZING for creating work for plumbers and drain cleaning companies as we get to charge more for replacing piping that some drain cleaning products eat through the piping and does nothing to clear the stoppages.

Also many are caustic thus we have a $100 added fee as extra caution has to be taken to protect employees from being blinded or burned.

The toilet sometime blockage could be a Q tip or other foreign object that catches toilet paper and then blocks the bowl, in this cause a closet auger is needed to snake the line.

Kitchen sink stoppages are either snaked or water jetted.

If you did use chemicals you had better warn the person prior to them working on the line so they can protect themselves if you fail to warm them and they get burned your subject to one major law suit.
