Can anyone give me an idea how remote controls are installed or a website that might show instructions

If I understand your question....
Remote control ceiling fans are installed just like any other ceiling fan. The controls are built in - like with a remote control TV. Then you have a little hand-held transmitter to conrol it - just like with a TV or VCR.
If you're thinking of ADDING a remote control to an existing fan, I've never seen a way to do that, and I think you'd be better off to buy one that has the remote control hardware built in.

There is a remote control made by The Hampton Bay fan and lighting co. which I bought at Home Depot and installed in my sons room.

Are remote controlled fan lights much more expensive than those without remote control?

Last time I looked (a few years ago) there was a significant cost difference.
For details and prices, just go shopping.
