My electrical. There are four sets of wires up there at a light on my porch. It and the entire upstairs turn on when I turn the switch on at the front door. Only one black is live, and it's from upstairs. The only thing I managed to do was there was a black and white from the same sheathing?? were wired together, so I wired them with like wires, and the light switch at the front door is on when in the down position, and vice versa, but it still controls upstairs, and if I put more than three things on upstairs, the breaker pops. Luckily, with the color scheme I labeled all wires before starting this project, I was able to put everything back to where it was and I have power, but still not as it should be. Can something be done so that the downstairs porch light switch does not control the upstairs lights?
It sounds like it has been like this for a while. How long have you liveds there? Is it a new house? I would call the elechicken back and fix it, He should be responsible for it. Do you know who did it?
We've had the house nearly 12 years, and I'm guessing you are right, it's always been like that. Because of the angle of our house, the dusk to dawn light did not work (or always worked) at the front door, and to keep the regular front porch light on, I just kept it on all the time. A couple years ago when changing fixtures it came to light how it affected the upstairs. We are in the process of selling our home, so now I know I have to have it fixed. The original electrician is long gone.
