I just bought a new house at chicago west suburb. I want to have the back yard sodded.while it is middle of Oct now. since there is big tempture difference between day (about 64) night (about 40 or lower). would this tempture difference hurt sod? since water is needed and it is too cold at night, freezing water is not good for roots.

and what the latest time can I do sodding?

thanks

Check with the sod nurserys in your area, they will know best.

Continue to water until the ground freezes. The roots will continue to grow. The blades won't grow unless the temp is in the 60's and 70s.

The water in the gound won't freeze like an ice cube. It takes quite a few days of below freezing weather for the ground to freeze.
