Hi, I am in the process of buying an 85-year old house. It still has the original roof (asbestos cement tile), which is moss-covered but not leaking. We are waiting for a roofing contractor to take a look, but so far have gotten conflicting opinions- one person says it's shot, the other says it'll last another 85 years. I don't want to replace it unless I have to. Anyone have any info on this? Thanks!

Beings that all asbestos roofs were installed about the same time, I would say that its life is done, around the Indianapolis area I have been seeing quite a few being replaced...some being done right with workers wearing resperators some not(Mexicans ripping thru them like a tornado). I personaly wouldnt buy the house becasue the new roof would be a great expense if done right, and a greater exp if caught being done wrong!

This is just my opion though...good luck
