I am considering purchasing some wide plank pine flooring from a company in Maine called "Maine Heart Pine". I received a sample from them and it looked great. My problem is that their prices are so good, it seems too good to be true.
I have not dealt with them, but it is not inconceivable. Sometimes companies stumble upon a great deal, themselves, and they pass the savings along to the customer. Moreover, many internet-based companies routinely provide much better prices than local dealers, in part because they eliminate often several middle-men in the distribution chain, and because their cost of doing business are so much lower. I have done business with them, and although the service is not as instant and gracious as local dealers, I (and friends) have had good experience. Your instincts are good to be careful, but it is not something to automatically dismiss.
