I am having hard wood floors installed all thru my house. I feel like it is too much the same- can I have a tile medallion with wood surrounding it in my foyer entry-way? Has anyone ever seen this done before?

yes this can be completed by a flooring professional successfully.

There are two ways to do any job. The right way and the wrong way. Do it right everytime.

It depends on the suitability of the subfloor and on the thickness of the medallion in relation to the wood flooring.

If you have particle board as a subfloor then no you cannot install a tile medallion. It has to be OSB or plywood with an underlayment rating, CDX is not and has only a sheathing rating. It must be a minimum of 5/8" with joists spaced at 16" on center.

You will need a sheet of 1/4" cement board as underlayment so check to make sure the board and the medallion combined are not thicker than the wood flooring.

You can have a solid marble or mosaic medallion installed in hard wood flooring very easily. There are lots of different types to choose from. The best fitting are medallions with a thin alumium backing this allows for a level, and soild installation. There are many to view on below site. HH
