Bird baths provide a vital source of water for our feathered friends to survive and thrive. When shopping for one, you need to consider how large you’d like it to be, where you’ll put it, and how easy it will be to fill and clean. By choosing an option you can install easily and placing it in a location where birds feel comfortable, you’re sure to attract more wildlife to your yard.

But since many of us leave these water features up year-round, the one you select should also be durable and attractive. Based on our research and hands-on testing of several top models, here are our picks for the best bird baths.

This ceramic bird bath from Sunnydaze has an 18-inch diameter bowl with an attractive glazed finish that’s easy to clean and won’t fade in the sun. Its classic pedestal-style design stands 20.5 inches tall and features a study base with decorative leaf cutouts.

In our tests, general assembly was easy, other than the time and patience it took to align the notches to the base for a secure fit. The 1.5-inch depth is more than enough for birds to bathe, and the frost-resistant glaze ensures it will last for years to come.

Vivohome Bird Bath and Solar Powered Fountain Combo

With a solar-powered water pump that sends an attractive yet gentle spray into the air, this model from Vivohome is more than a bird bath. During testing, we set it up in a sunny spot and were happy to see it still worked well on overcast days.

Though the 28-inch-tall by 20-inch-diameter combo unit is made from weather-resistant polyresin, it looks like cast iron from afar. Since the base is hollow, it stays put better with some sand or rocks inside, and if the fountain is spraying water outside the basin, you’ll want a small stone on the solar pump as well.

Mumtop’s hanging glass bird bath mimics the look of stained glass with a vibrant, handcrafted design that’s meant to stand out. The 11-inch diameter bowl is made of high-quality glass that sits in a rust-resistant metal frame and is suspended by a 20-inch steel chain. It weighs under 2 pounds and comes with a convenient S-hook for hanging from a branch or bracket.

While the 2-inch-deep basin is ideal for drinking and bathing, it also works as a bird feeder when filled with seed. The smooth glass surface and shallow edges make it simple to clean, ensuring it remains an attractive destination over time.

The Audubon by WoodLink bird bath is a solid choice for compact outdoor spaces like decks and balconies. Constructed from steel and polypropylene with a classic terra cotta finish, it’s built to be durable and easy to install—in fact, the mount adjusts to fit most railings without the need for tools.

The 2.5-inch-deep basin is suitable for larger birds and holds a full quart of water, yet the overall 13-inch by 11.5-inch by 7-inch footprint (including mounting gear) is relatively small. If you really want to encourage visitors, you could even buy a second unit and fill it with seed.

With a vintage garden style and an elegant retro shape, this cast iron bird bath from KHayRovies is designed to blend naturally into any outdoor space. At 36.2 inches tall, the unit features a 10.6-inch diameter bowl with a special coating that resists rust and fading.

Assembly and installation are simple: just screw together the stand, insert its four-pronged base into your lawn or garden, and pop in the basin. LIke other shallow models, the 1.6-inch bowl works just as well as a feeder as it does a bath.

API Heated Deck-Mount Bird Bath

If supporting local wildlife through every season is a cause you care about, this heated bird bath from API is the pick for you. Made of durable, weather-resistant plastic, the 20-inch diameter basin features an enclosed heating element that prevents water from freezing. It’s easy to attach to a deck railing, pole, or pedestal, and all necessary mounting hardware is included.

As promised, the water we added to this bath never froze during testing, though we did need to add an outdoor-rated extension cord since the built-in one is a bit short. Although this model is one of the more expensive on this list, it’s perfect for bird lovers who live with freezing temperatures each winter.

Mumtop Glass Bird Bath With Metal Stake

Mumtop’s glass bird baths are so pretty that we couldn’t pick just one. Instead of hanging from an S-hook and chain, this 11.42-inch stunning glass basin sits on a 25-inch-tall, four-pronged stainless steel stake. It requires minimal assembly and is easy to install directly in the ground.

As much as we loved the stunning peacock design of the one we tested (it comes in flower and seahorse designs as well), its compact size meant water evaporated relatively quickly on hot, sunny days. Refills are just as quick, however, and this pick is also easy to wipe clean.

Daoeny Classic Freestanding Metal Bird Bath

The Daoeny freestanding bird bath features an all-metal base and bowl with a weather-resistant powder coat, making it a heavy-duty alternative to plastic or resin models. At 10.5 inches in diameter and 2 inches deep all the way across, it holds comparatively more water than tapered designs.

Installation is tool-free, the upgraded five-pronged base provides extra stability, and the detachable bowl lifts right out of the steel ring for easy cleaning and refilling. Whether you use it for water or as a high-capacity feeding tray, its rustproof finish ensures it remains a durable, low-maintenance fixture.
