Ryobi often doesn’t get the respect it deserves, but for my money, it may be the best bang-for-your-buck brand in the tool market today. Whenever a person buys or rents a new home, Ryobi’s 6-Tool Combo Kit should be their first purchase.
My wall of cordless tools is filled with Ryobi neon green and DeWalt yellow, and I find that Ryobi compares remarkably well to its esteemed competitor. Ryobi offers power tools for indoors and out, so as seasons and projects change, Ryobi has tools to make life easier. Home Depot’s occasional Ryobi Days offer special benefits, free tools, and discounts, but it’s always a best time to purchase these ultra-useful (and ultra-affordable) tools.
1. ONE+ 18V Cordless 3/8 in. 3-Speed Impact Wrench

For the home mechanic, this 3-speed 3/8-inch impact wrench is a great value for $99. It quickly removes tough lug nuts when changing tires on your vehicle or tightening various clamps or bolts. It works best when paired with a fully charged 4ah battery or higher. That said, it may be worth splurging forthe more powerful HP brushless version, which is about $20 more.

2. ONE+ 18V Cordless 10 oz. Caulk & Adhesive Gun

If you’re about to embark on a kitchen or bathroom remodel at your home or just do a lot of caulking around your house, this battery-power caulk gun will help reduce hand fatigue. According to Ryobi, this tool can dispense up to 200 tubes of caulk or sealant on a fully charged battery. (Although I’m not sure when you’re going to go through that many on one job.) It’s designed to be no-drip, so there’s less mess and clean up at the end of the day. Users say it’s able to push through even the thickest adhesive with no issues. At its highest power, it tends to push out caulk almost too fast, so stick to the lower settings.

3. ONE+ 18V Cordless Oscillating Multi-Tool

Confession: I bought the DeWalt version of this oscillating tool, but luckily my friend Jimmie owns the Ryobi. If Ryobi was my only battery platform, I wouldn’t hesitate for a second buying this. It’s relatively quiet for this type of tool and the vibrations don’t work their way up your arm during normal usage, but it still creates up to 20,000 OSM. This is an awesome tool for cutting into drywall or trim or even through stray brad nails. It comes with sanding accessories allowing you to smooth out those hard-to-reach places you can’t get to with a random-orbit sander. Be sure to buy extra blades because you will go through them.

4. ONE+ 18V Cordless 4-1/2 in. Angle Grinder

This isn’t a tool I use a lot, so I didn’t want to spend a premium for a more powerful version. Luckily I’ve found its 9,000 RPM motor is plenty powerful enough for my needs. I’ve used it to cut off locks (mine, after I lost the key), shorten cheap wrenches to work in ultra-tight spaces, and more. Changing the cutting wheel is quick and easy. If you’re not using it for trade purposes, it should be a staple in your tool collection for years to come. Bonus, it’s often included in Home Depot’s Ryobi Days tool giveaways.

5. ONE+ 18V 18-Gauge Cordless AirStrike Brad Nailer

This one is a bit of a cheat, as it officially retails for $139, but it’s constantly on sale at my local Home Depot for $99. This 18-gauge nailer is the unsung hero of my workshop; I use it to throw together quick jigs or to hold a joint together while the glue dries. I love that I can take it with me around my home without messing around with an air-compressor hose. It doesn’t have the oomph of an air-powered nailer, but it’s plenty powerful enough for most homeowner needs at a really affordable price.
