One of my favorite daily rituals is checking my bird feeder app to spot uncommon visitors, especially during migration season. My friends and family are used to seeing my social media feeds filled with videos and photos of my feathered friends. I’ve tested several smart bird feeders over the years, but the Birdfy Feeder 2 Duo has so far impressed me the most with its premium dual-camera design. The original Netvue Birdfy AI smart bird feeder already offered solid AI identification and reliable alerts, but this new model goes a step further with a second wide-angle camera, upgraded image clarity, and a user experience that feels more refined and responsive from the start.

The dual-camera setup is the feeder’s standout feature. The main camera, the Pro camera, features two lenses: a 3MP top lens with 2K resolution that rotates and tracks movement, and a 2MP wide-angle bottom lens with 1080p resolution and a fixed view. The second camera is the side camera, which mirrors the design of the standard Birdfy model.

Together, they capture front and side views, offering dynamic coverage of every visit. Both deliver impressive color accuracy and contrast, even in low light, making live feeds and clips of cardinals, titmice, and the occasional squirrel more vivid and immersive. The upgraded night vision also makes it easy to spot nocturnal visitors without harsh glare.

Setup is easy and intuitive; it connected to my Wi-Fi without any issues, and live chat support is quick and helpful if you need assistance. The Birdfy Feeder 2 Duo supports AI bird identification, which depends on the device you choose. If you purchase a device with the AI Lifetime Free version, everything’s included by default—no activation or extra payments needed.

If you select the AI by Subscription option, you’ll get a 7-day free trial and can then subscribe monthly, annually, or make a one-time payment to keep the service active. This approach is standard among smart bird cameras and helps keep the device’s AI features continually improving. Currently, the Duo does offer the lifetime free access. Another standout upgrade is the 5W solar panel, which powers both cameras and has kept my feeder running for weeks without manual charging.

The build quality also feels sturdier than the original model, with a redesigned food container and weatherproof housing that handled several rainy days without issue. I appreciate that Birdfy now offers an optional duo mount system that lets you install the feeder in two ways: either mounted on a pole or attached to a wall or tree, so that you can position the cameras for optimal lighting and viewing angles.

One important thing to note is that this feeder is not squirrel-proof at all. If you have issues with squirrels (as I do) you will absolutely need a baffle or some other method to keep them off the feeder. I did have an instance where the squirrels chewed through my solar panel wire and seed guard, but thankfully, these parts are all replaceable!

Sharing photos and clips through the app is seamless. Two of my favorite features are the Community View and Highlights. The Community View lets you browse photos and videos shared by bird lovers worldwide—it’s fascinating to see the variety of species spotted across different regions, all from the comfort of home. The Highlights feature offers daily or monthly visual recaps, showing which species visited, first-time bird guests, and the best photos captured of each. It’s an especially valuable tool for anyone who studies birds or participates in citizen science projects like the Great Backyard Bird Count.

The only real drawback to the Birdfy Feeder 2 Duo is its price—at over $400, it carries a hefty price tag. That said, there’s a more affordable version with just one camera and it’s often on sale. Still, after several weeks of testing, I can confidently say the upgrade is worth it.

This is a one-of-a-kind gift for the bird lover in your life. The Birdfy Feeder 2 Duo builds on everything that made the original great: sharper visuals, longer battery life, smarter features, and a more reliable overall experience. If you’re serious about backyard birding and love seeing wildlife up close, this feeder delivers on every promise.
