Household chores like laundry and dishes can be tedious and time-consuming. Still, no chore is less desirable than cleaning toilets. Not only is it just plain ol’ gross, but tough buildup, hard water stains, and toilet rings require serious cleaning power. And finding a cleaner that can do more than just eliminate regular buildup? No easy feat.

A couple of years ago, my kids’ bathroom toilet had recurrent, stubborn toilet bowl rings, thanks in part to hard water. The kids’ bathroom also doubles as a guest bathroom, and I was embarrassed any time someone had to use that toilet. Desperate to find a fix, I set out to find the best toilet bowl cleaner. I started with recommendations from friends and family; some performed okay, but none would completely remove the toilet rings.

So, I hit up Amazon, adding a few of the highest-rated cleaners to my list. As I made my way through the cleaners, I was met with mostly disappointment, until I tried one of the cheapest in the group, the Lysol Power Cling Toilet Bowl Cleaner

It danced circles around the dozen or so other products I tried. Its thick cling gel clung to the stubborn stains, and after letting it sit for a few minutes, the entire ring practically melted off the toilet bowl. A light scrub was all it took, and I had a brand new-looking toilet bowl. (And no longer had to suffer the embarassment of sending guests to use this bathroom.)

Not only does this toilet bowl remove every stain it’s put up against, plus regular buildup, it also disinfects, killing 99.9 percent of bathroom viruses and bacteria—a big plus in my book. It has a fairly strong minty scent that’s not overpowering, but makes the bathroom feel clean. And since the gel clings, it’s very easy to spot treat any stain in the bowl.

While I’m not usually one to be brand loyal, the Lysol Power Toilet Bowl Cleaner works so well that I haven’t used anything else since first trying it. Plus, at only a little over $2 per bottle, the price can’t be beat.
