If you love to prepare delicious meals on your barbecue grill, then you’ll want to know about this recent product recall. Nexgrill is voluntarily recalling approximately 10.2 million metal wire grill brushes due to significant health risks.
At least 68 incidents have been reported so far, triggering this recall. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, consumers reported incidents in which small wire bristles detached from their grill brushes and stuck to the surface of their food. A handful of reports involved people who swallowed metal bristles and needed medical treatment to remove the bristles from their digestive tract or throat.
If you own a Nexgrill brush, put it down and read below to learn what to do next.

Recall Due to Health Risks
Swallowing metal grill brush bristles poses significant health risks because the small, sharp wires can easily detach from a brush, stick to the grill or food, and be accidentally consumed. This can cause internal injuries in the throat or digestive tract that may require surgery, throat and soft tissue damage that could develop into an infection or an abscess, intestinal perforations and obstructions that can impede bowel movements, and even life-threatening complications like sepsis.
Symptoms to watch out for include throat pain, ear pain, stomach discomfort, or problems going to the bathroom. It’s important to note that symptoms may be delayed, potentially appearing several days after swallowing a bristle.

After receiving a confirmation email that your registration has been successfully processed, you will then receive directions on how to dispose of the recalled grill brush. Don’t throw the brush away until you have received the confirmation email.
Safer Alternatives
Fortunately, safer grill cleaning products are available, such as scrapers, sponges, disposable or reusable wipes, and non-wire pads and brushes. Switching to these non-wire options is a simple change that can eliminate the risk of accidentally swallowing a metal bristle and suffering the consequences.
Additionally, manufacturers like Nexgrill have stated they are expanding their lineup of cleaning tools specifically to include more options without metal wire bristles to ensure consumer safety.
