I have a Maytag MDG3000AWW gas dryer. When I push the start button it tries to turn the drum, if I open the door and turn the drum from the inside it will start ( making a squeaky ) noise.

You might try removing the belt and seeing how easily the drum can be turned by hand. If stiff, a problem in the drum support rollers or drum slides might be a possibility.
If it turns Ok with the belt removed, there might be a problem in the motor making it unable to operate when under stress of turning the drum. In that case the motor might need to be replaced.
