My Papa's porch is sinking. How should we go about repairing this? Can we pour on top of the concrete? Does prarrie soil make this much worse?

- concrete porch is sinking
Could you give more information about the size and depth of the concrete pad, and what shape it's in (any cracks, etc.)? Is it connected to anything? How far has it sunk, and how long did it take for that to happen?
My porch is sinking, too. It's dropped about 4 inches on one corner. It's got
two sides which are attached, one to a brick wall of the house, and the other
to a step into the front door of the house. There are also three steps on a
third side which go down to the sidewalk. It's got either concrete or blocks
inside, covered with an outside of bricks. The house is about 10 years old,
and it shows a repair (maybe two), before we bought the house three years ago,
so it's not moving "fast" but is getting noticable. The crack in the top
bricks mortor is definately noticable. It's about 5' x 7' x 2.5' deep.

I have an estimate for $1100 to bust it up, haul away the debris, and
completely re-do the whole porch. Any advice? (I am NOT a do-it-yourself-er
at all, but I don't want to pay for the wrong fix either.
Thanks!
Leslie
