My husband and I just moved to Denmark. We bought an old house (from 1910) and I started a wallpaper removal project (which has now turned into a nightmare!!)
The walls are origianlly brick, covered in plaster. There are approximately 4 or 5 layers of old wallpaper and then that has been covered with another type of "plaster" (a thin, bumpy layer sprayed on) and then painted. I think the walls are very irregular underneath and the past owners has never attempted to do what I am...repairing it properly and starting with a clean wall.

Anyway, I am desperate to find solutions. I have tried steam - doesn't work. I have tried special "solution" that I wet the walls with and tried to scrape off - doesn't work.

Help! Thanks, Margaret

I just had the same experience, I bought chemicals to remove the wallpaper that did not work. I finally used vinegar and warm water. Use a large sponge to soak the wall with, wait a few minutes and the paper scrapes right off. Don't try to scrape off several layers at one time, peel one layer of paper off floor to ceiling at a time. If the wall paper is heavy first use a tool to perforate the paper so the vinegar will soak in. good luck

When you wet the walls with that "solution," you often need to perforate the wallpaper first to insure that the solution (and the water) can get to the glue under the paper. Most hoe centers sell what is branded as a "paper tiger" which has two cutting wheels that roll around the wall and perforate it in just the right depth. Other perforating tools also exist. Otherwise, you do not get to the glue under the paper, and it stays just as strong as before you tried to remove it.
