I am not very familiar with the workings of a sump pump but I just purchased a house that has one in the basement. We had a heavy rain last night and it came on. It was a lot louder than I expected. I went to the basement to look at it and the sump pump itself is not submerged but the unit is above the top of the hole and is just resting against the side of the hole, which is why there is a vibration going upstairs. My question is should the pump be perfectly vertical for it to work properly. I saw no problems with it leaning up against the side but I wanted to make sure.

Hi jeffvb9,

IMO, the best thing to do is to get the Mfgr. info off of the unit and contact them for a copy of the Installation Instructions.

I don't want to be the one responsible for giving you the wrong advice and having water fill your basement as a result of that. My best to ya and hope this helps.
