please help. need to put down luan on hallway b/4 installing lino. area is 21x7.how much to buy, how to cut, how to install. i am a renter and don't want to really spend too much. thanks

Linoleum usually requires other than luan exterior grade plywood for use as a subfloor.
You need a 1/4" plywood or similar product made especially for linoleum use.
Exterior 'luan" has resins and glues that can discolor linoleum.
The underlayment can be cut with a razor knife or with a circular saw.
Fastening is done best using a pneumatic stapler. Manual fastening will required ring shanked underlayment nails set below surface level with a hammer.
7 x 21 = 147 Square feet.
A sheet of underlayment is 32 square feet.
147 divided by 32 = 4.59 sheets.
You will actually need 5 sheets of underlayment for the project.
