i want to get some advice on installing laminate flooring over ceramic tile. will this work well or will it compromise the laminate floor? has anyone done this and had good or bad results? any advice or experience would be appreciated. thanks dena

Everybody I ever talked to that did this did not like the outcome. The laminate will show the ridges of the grout lines in the ceramic over time. Flashing the grout lines with a self leveling material wont work because the layer applied will be too thin and crack out over time, giving you a nice crunchy sound underfoot. You would have to apply the Self leveling cement to a thickness of 3/8" over the whole floor so depending on the area of coverage you could run up a large bill for the SLC, but then again maybe its cheaper than a dumpster to haul away the old tile, so pick your poison.
