I have an old house with wood siding - several of the pieces of wood are loose. What kind of nails do I use to secure them? do I use galvanized nails? What size nails, etc....

After I get the loose boards secured, do I caulk the spaces (both horizontal and vertical)?

thanks,

Any exterior nailing should always be done with hot dipped galvanized nails or stainless steel nails.

Whether to use a particular size and diameter depends on the size and condition of the siding boards or if trim, use headless nails.

The siding might be a 6d ring shank or a 7d galvie.

caulk vertical joints but not horizontal.
