OK I have Zero knowledge concerning brick siding. I own a 6 year old brick faced home. I noticed that a number of the red bricks were cracked and then I noticed that the builder did not use solid bricks. Basic red clay bricks. I'm questioning if this even meets code? Sadly I'm the 2nd owner and even hiring an out of town inspector did not find any issues (Yeah some were major and this guy came highly recomended and was a retired builder himself).

Please tell me if these bricks conform with code as it seems ridiculous that only 6 years and significant cracks. Plus could this be related to my water issues around the home?

Last and unrelated. Anyone know of a site for fireplace mantle and surround ideas?

hard to tell from here. Do you mean the bricks have holes in the centers? That is not uncommon. neither is minor checking.

but if you have water problems, then it could be related. What sort of water trouble do you have? Do you have weep holes in th ebase of the brick veneer? What sort of climate do you liove in?

Excellence is its own reward!
