I’m relocating to a house that was built in 1950.
the unfinished basement is nice large and dry so I want to add den/home theatre. Theres a few obstacles to this as the basement is unfinished, so i have to consider carpet/area rugs, ect. One major issue is the noise level. The basement is directly under two bedrooms and I want to keep the noise down for my roommates as I keep different hours. The ceiling is unfinished and is basically rafters with one big major heating duct.
1. Is there any type of insulation product that I can install between the rafters to deaden the noise to the occupants above me?
2. Cost and Place I can purchase this product.
You could use fiberglass, but I do not like the use of fiberglass in areas that are habited unless there is drywall mounted over it. Any type of insulation with give you acoutical benefits, it's just a matter of what degree.
