We live in the Dallas Fort Worth area. We need to replace a big window that faces north. What is best aluminum or vinyl?

if it's a sold aluminum that's one of the worst window materials, terrible thermal numbers. If it's aluminum clad/wood then that's actually one of the most high end windows you can buy. Vinyl is the best value (less cost, better thermal numbers than all aluminum) but vinyl lacks architectural detail. If you can afford a nice wood window brand such as Marvin or Kolbe go with it. If not there are a few vinyl brands out there worth looking into. Avoid big box stores. Try to find a window/door showroom/distributor in your area.

Vinyl blinds can come in multiple shapes and sizes for your window. This plastic material is all relatively easy to make and mould into shape. As they are popular for use in making blinds, they become cheaper with their growing popularity. As vinyl is a plastic material, your blinds will be light weight, but strong as well. Vinyl also resists scratches, and won’t bend or become brittle. Vinyl blinds is very inexpensive, and look great as well- choose from a variety of paint colors to customize your blinds and really make them a part of your home.

Aluminum blinds is simple, clean blinds, and you don’t have to worry about high maintenance when you have them. Aluminum blinds do not face splitting, cracking, fading, or mold issues unlike other blind types. Cleaning will be a breeze as well; use a damp cloth to deal with any sticky messes left by children, or soapy water as well. Aluminum blinds will stand up to any substances, whereas wooden blinds might not. They’re sturdy and simple, and moreover, they’re inexpensive. This sleek look is great for any home, and you can customize your blinds in different shapes, and colors.

I'd like to suggest http://www.zebrablinds.ca for Aluminum, Vinyl & other blinds, I hope this is help for you!!
