Water stain near window - Help!
Hello. I live in a 2 yr. old house in Texas and I just noticed that on one of my windows, the wall right next to the corner sill has a small water stain (about 6 inches by 4 inches). I first noticed the water stain last year when it was only about 3 inches by 2 inches. I guess it doubled in size after 1 year. The wall is made of drywall and the finish is flat paint (eggshell color). The water stain is just a tad darker than eggshell. The drywall and the sill is moist. I asked the builder and was told that this is due to condensation from the inside of the house. That there should be no water sipping in because the windows are sealed tight. I was advised to paint over the stain and do several measures to prevent condensation. But if this is because of the condensation from the inside, why would the drywall be wet? Should I be worried?
What the builder sayS can be very true. Does it seem to be worse when it rains? From all the wet materials there can be as mush as 5 or 6 hundred gallons of water taken out of a house in the first year! Part of the problem is the houses are built two tight. Do you have a humidifier on your furnace? If so turn it down or off do not pump any more moisture into the house.
