My house is older - 1918 Craftsman Bungalow, quarter sawn oak cabinets that are pretty dark, just got my soapstone counters installed this week and I finally have running water again, woo hoo! I am trying to keep a pretty traditional feel, but not necessarily completely true to the period. I THINK that I want something light, since the room is a little dark at times, and probably a subway or maybe a square tile? I think that I also want a matte or at least not a really glossy finish and some variations in the color within a tile. I have ordered some samples from fireclay, but they haven't arrived yet.

I don't have a huge amount of space to be tiled, so I can probably be more flexible with the budget if I can find something great. I am worried that I am suffering from decision overload and I am rushing to be done and I don't want to make a dumb choice. I am not as familiar with all the options and don't have the eye for it that so many of you do. Please take pity on my beat down DIY soul and help me.
