Ok, so I'm new to this type of home improvement task but I've watched videos so figured I could tackle it. However, I've run into an issue with my taped drywall corners.

I moved into a home that had wood trim in the corners of the dining room so after I tore those out, removed the old paper tape, sanded and cleaned up I got my supplies together to tape it back up.

I followed suggestions to wet the paper tape before applying to my first coat of compound. Seemed fine but after that dried I sanded the next day, and cleaned it up before adding a second filler coat. I laid this on somewhat thick but it looked fine. However the next day when I was standing the edges smooth I noticed the crease/corner was soft/damp and flaky(?)..

I'm nervous to continue and wondering if I completely botched the entire thing and have to start over... suggestions?
