My washer is not agitating or spinning and I feel it is probably a belt or something slipped off.

How do you get into these new washers? It used to be that the older models lifted up at the top.

It is a Kenmore 80 series, only about 4 years old.

Any advice please would be appreciated. I at least want to open it up and look and see if I can find something before I pay for someone to come out and charge me an arm and a leg for a repair.

It would depend on the exact model number (only found in the model and serial number tag) of your washer. Being that age, it is most likely a 'direct drive' model in which case the whole cabinet usually comes off, just the top does not.

On a direct drive model, a common failure is the 'motor coupling' which can be seen at the following link. There are no belts used.
