is there an easy way to size a steel angle to use to reinforce a floor joist that's been cut for plumbing? the idea is to put a steel angle on each side of the joist, through bolted together. There is only room for an angle that's 1 1/2" tall so i imagine it'd be a heavy angle. I want to figure out what size i need. the span is 10'6".

thanks for any help you can provide!

Perhaps you've completed by now, I'd use the thinnest/lightest since you seem to be shoring up a weakness due to lost cross section.

You'll be adding the reinforcement, and eliminating stress concentrations by spreading out the load. No need that I can see to add extra weight or dollars for heavier sections.
