it's currently dull grey, however it has a smooth finish.

what's the best way to paint the smooth floor? I'll be converting the garage into
an office/playroom.

carpet, wood laminate would be too costly.
wood laminate would be nice, however I need to put subflooring plywood? vinyl another option?

I figured a couple of buckets of paint and that should do.

What kind of paint? primer? how about for stenciling? stain protection? hoping to last for a couple of years, no peeling, and heavy usage.

thanks in advance!

I always suggest to people that the best stuff to use for longevity is what automechanics garages use as their floor paint (stain resitant, easy to clean and very durable)

A good product to use is an silicone/acrylic concrete stain, which is really an oil based product with acrylic resins. The floor will need to be acid etched before you apply any type of coating to insure adhesion. This product is used in residential garages all the time and can be driven on so it does take abuse. Go to your local paint store to get this product.
