In case anyone is interested, I recently discovered the WaterCop system that comes with WaterDogs. When a waterdog senses water on a surface, it sends an RF signal to the WaterCop, which then controls a ball valve and shuts off the water to your house (if you have a soft-water loop, you might need to install before your hard water line splits into your house). I put one in because one of my hoses popped off one day and luckily I was home to shut off the water. But I figure the investment vs. inconvenience, mold growth in walls and floors, and insurance headaches is worth the trade-off.
